First settlers in America
In the 17th century, the first group of settlers who came to the United states were British and European. They came to America for different reasons. Some of them wanted to start a small business, to live among equals, or to own a farm. Some of them came for religious freedom even though America was British's colony. The settlers wanted to make their own economic and political decisions based on their own needs, so In 1775, the War for Independence started. In 1783, the American won their independence.
After the war, American established a new system of government which called federalist system, which is a central government that has certain powers, with the state as the basic unit of political power. The allocation of power between the state and federal government has been a point of contention from the Articles of Confederation to the present day.

America's first people
Do you know that America's first people are not the whites. They are native people who settlers called them Indians. In 19th century, there are approximately 10 million native people in America. But, when settlers came in, Indian tribes started losing their land. They had lost nearly all of it in 1880 because they used their land to exchange for food, money, and, perhaps most importantly, the government promise to leave them in peace.
America's increasing diversity
Everyone knows that America is a big immigration country but today's' immigration pattern is very different from earlier pattern. Earlier immigrants came from Europe, but today's immigrants come from Asia and Latina.
